This weekend marked the release of some movies that were poised to make some solid cash. Were the new releases able to live up the the giant that took the top spot last weekend? Keep reading to find out.

After a monster opening weekend there was no doubt this movie was going to drop quite a bit. However, for a big budget movie like this a 54% is by no means bad at all. Thor: Ragnarok has already hit the 200 million dollar mark domestically, and has made an additional 438 million dollars overseas. The movie in just two weekends has surpassed both the domestic and foreign totals of its predecessors and looks poised to come close to the billion dollar mark. Congratulations to the cast and crew of this film.
#2- Daddy's Home 2
Week #: 1
Weekend Gross: $ 30,000,000
Total Domestic Gross: $ 30,000,000
Theatre Count: 3,575

I don't understand how the first Daddy's Home made as much as it did, and I especially don't understand how this movie did so well. The first film is really bad, this one didn't look much better, and yet somehow it brought in 30 million dollars. Somehow audiences completely ignored the brutal critical response this movie got, or just didn't care. Just because of the talent involved I hope this movie makes its budget back but I really hope it doesn't make enough for us to see a Daddy's Home 3.
#3- Murder on the Orient Express
Week #: 1
Weekend Gross: $ 28,200,000
Total Domestic Gross: $ 28,200,000

If you read my review for this movie you would know that I found it pretty disappointing. That being said I'm still glad it managed to bring in a good amount of money. I thought the mixed critical response the film got might diminish its totals but the film ended up making more than I expected, as I saw it coming in at right around 20 million. With a solid foreign opening as well, Murder on the Orient Express has already made its budget back. I loved Kenneth Branagh's character in the film, so while I didn't love the movie, hopefully sometime soon we can get a follow up.
#4- A Bad Moms Christmas
Week #: 2
Weekend Gross: $ 11,510,000
Total Domestic Gross: $ 39,873,626

Of all the totals this weekend, A Bad Moms Christmas is somehow the one that impresses me the most. The first film managed to take insanely low drops from weekend to weekend, only dropping 19% from weekend 2 to 3, and it seems like this film is keeping the tradition. A comedy holding up this well is already uncommon, but having it hold up despite other popular films coming out is insane. I would also expect the film to have a similar crowd to Daddy's Home 2, but that didn't manage to derail the movie.
#5- Jigsaw
Week #: 3
Weekend Gross: $ 3,420,000
Total Domestic Gross: $ 34,354,093
Theatre Count: 2,651
Weekend to Weekend: -47.9%
I'll be honest I don't care about this movie. It didn't take too big of a drop, probably because there aren't really any other horror movies to go see, so congrats to Jigsaw I guess. It will be out of the top 5 and probably won't make much money at all next weekend but it has had a solid run.

#10- Lady Bird
Week #: 2
Weekend Gross: $ 1,249,358
Total Domestic Gross: $ 1,781,438
Theatre Count: 37
#16- The Florida Project
Week #: 6
Weekend Gross: $ 579,370
Total Domestic Gross: $ 3,839,248

It added 33 theatres to the 4 it had last weekend and that led to a big jump, all the way into the top 10. Hopefully we can see a large theatre boost and some big box office returns as it is clear that this is a movie people really want to see, myself included. Since I haven't seen it I don't know if it has what it takes to make an awards run, but from what I've heard it is a very great film that we can all hopefully soon see.

This movie is getting a shout out because I saw it this weekend and I think a lot more people need to. I really hope it continues to add theatres and become more accessible because I think it has some serious awards chances.
#24- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Week #: 1
Weekend Gross: $ 320,000
Total Domestic Gross: $ 320,000
Theatre Count: 4

This is a similar return to what we saw from Lady Bird last weekend. The film opened on only four screens but averaged $80,000 per theatre, which is a huge number. This just shows that a lot of people are excited for this movie, and with a jump in theatres it will likely see a large box office jump, much like Lady Bird.
